January left it's mark.

Wow is it really almost Valentines Day? Where did the time go? It seems to go faster everyday and yet I realize what is really going faster is me. I must be in high speed all the time or else all the balls I am juggling will fall. As least that is how it feels at times. I thought I would share a little bit of what we have been up to in the new year.

January came and went but not without leaving it's mark....in Haley's head. A week after Haley recovered from Scarlet Fever with facial swelling as a side effect, she bumped her head on who know's what and went about her day. No real crying or fussing about it until later that night when she couldn't get comfortable on her pillow. After finally being able to feel the bump with my hand I felt something else too...something crusty. Sure enough there in the bunch of beautiful locks of hair Haley had a head gash with a dried blood line going down her head. I could hardly believe it. I took her to the doctor and 5 staples later she was home recovering.

January and Feruary is commonly known as the Horrocks RSV months. Thankfully RSV isn't a big issue for us now that our children are getting bigger but these two months continue to be our illness months. This winter it hasn't been as bad (is there any wood here I can knock on?) and for that we are grateful!

At the end of January President Hinckley past away. On the second day of his viewing I took a true adventure. I packed up the diaper bag and dressed the children up in their Sunday best and we went to say goodbye to our beloved Prophet. It took 4 hours and yet my children were incredibly good. I wasn't allowed to pack my bag in so I had nothing to entertain or feed them during that time. Thankfully we had eaten lunch before we left. The kids were really well behaved and I believe they felt and recognized the special spirit that was there. AFter much anticipation and patience we finally got to be in the room where he laid in his casket. It was very moving and we were all glad we made the journey to say goodbye. As we walked out of the room Haley said "Mommy, when do we get to see President Hinckley?" My heart sunk. She walked right past and didn't see him. She cried and cried about it. I wanted to go through the 4 hours again just so she could see him but I knew I couldn't ask that of the other kids...especially Camden. AFter talking about things Haley calmed down and was ok with things. She was sad that she couldn't give him the quarter she had for him (I'm thinking at this point she doesn't fully understand that he is dead). It was so sweet that she wanted to give him her special quarter. Instead of giving her quarter to someone she decided to put a coin in the fountain outside the conference center...this made her happy. After a long walk to our van we went and had dinner together. This one activity took all day but it was a wonderful day. I had so much fun with the kids and they had fun with me. We talked alot about feelings we have for our prophet and for the Gospel and we got to talk about the temple and remember being there as a family.

I really do have the greatest kids in the world!

My goal is to use this outlet as our way of keeping you aprised of all our Small Adventures.
