There have been a couple of issues in the past that I have posted about regarding budget cuts in Utah but Wednesday I received an email alert from Kathy Searle from The Utah Adoption Exchange regarding cuts that will deeply affect children in foster care. It will make it so not families with big hearts (but smaller wallets) will not be able to come forward and adopt children.
This is the email I received.

"I just heard that state adoption funding may be completely cut by our Utah
legislature and just wanted to let you know so that you can help get the word
out to any Utah parents. The following are on the Social Services Appropriations
sub committee making the decisions. We are 88th on the list of about 134 to be
funded. Please contact these committee members and let them know how important
adoption subsidy funding is to our children and to the children waiting to be a
part of a permanent family."

Kathy was interview by KSL regarding this issue and it aired last night on the 10:00 news. I cannot seem to find the clip to share with you here (which is frustrating). Kathy is very concerned and help getting to word out.
Please do what you can to spread the word and please help those in charge of making the decisions see how it affects children. I am sure most of them making the decisions have no idea that they will be hurting children and making it harder for children to be adopted from foster care.

I realize we are in a time of cutting...some things need to be cut but this isn't that "something". There are plenty of other places to cut without it affecting those who are most vulnerable.
