"If you're listening,
if you're awake to the poignant beauty of the world, your heart breaks
regularly. In fact, your heart is made to break; its purpose is to
burst open again and again so that it can hold ever more wonders."
~ Andrew Harvey
This quote is very special to me. If you have been a long time reader of my blog you have seen the quote before in this post. It speaks what I felt as I had to say goodbye to my first long term Foster Baby. I thought I was going to die from the pain in my heart...but I didn't. My heart grew and grew and is able to hold more love for others. I have realized I have had many times in my life when I became "awake" and my heart "burst". I am so thankful for this awakening and how it has changed how I think, how I live and who I am inside.
One of these awakenings came while Brad and I were working as foster parents. Our long term goal was to adopt another child so I started looking through the hundreds of sites of America's waiting children. The heavy truth fell upon my heart as I saw each beautiful face and read about each life that was crying out for a place to thrive and each heart that was in need of a home. I didn't know up until then just how many children were in need of a family! It was a painful realization. I realized then that I wanted to do something so I posted about them on this blog and then emailed some friends. One sweet friend, Lindsey, over at therhouse said she would post them on her blog as well. This developed into "Matching Mondays". It was a short time later I was asked to serve on the Utah Adoption Exchange Advisory Board. This brought more understanding that there are children of all ages in need of a family to take them and love them completely.
Today I want to share with you a special event happening this Wednesday
(Aug. 22nd)
on KSL called
"A Day for Wednesday's Child".
It is the Utah Adoption Exchange Telethon. *All money raised goes directly to program services. 96 cents of every dollar goes to recruiting homes for the more than 150 children waiting in Utah's Foster Care system. This is so important and yet this event does even more....it brings adoption awareness to our community where children are waiting for a loving family. Please join me in helping to spread the word about this special day.
Here is how you can help spread the word
1. Tweet about the event using hashtag #KSLadopt
2. Mention it on Facebook.
3. Blog about the event.
4. Use your voice and spread the word.
Please tune in on Wednesday and donate if you can. Any little bit helps.
I have the opportunity to be part of the event along with some other incredible bloggers who love adoption! Join us and help support Utah's children!
Today for Matching Mondays rather than featuring one single child I would like to direct you to the many faces that are Utah's Waiting Children.
Not every child in need of a home is on this website...there are many more in foster care hoping a day will come when they will in a home of their own with a family who is just right for them! Please take time to read through their profile and look at their beautiful faces and see if one of them is the one you have been praying for!
