General Conference Countdown Hunt & Match Game

Only 6 days until General Conference.
Tonight we kick off our official "Countdown".
I am doing a little something like I did last conference.
I am calling it the
Hunt and Match Game.
Each day (starting today) I will hide an ingredient to a treat we will be making together on Saturday.  Attached to each ingredient will be a little slip of paper with a few basic facts about a member of the 12 Apostles or the First Presidency.  I have chosen 6 different leaders to highlight.   Once they find the ingredient it goes in the basket that will sit in a main area of our home.
Then they have to take the slip of facts and match it to the right picture.

Saturday morning they will find and match the last fact slip.
During the 2 hour break Saturday afternoon we will be making the treat together.

If you would like to use the pictures and facts I have created you can download them here:
Just print them and then cut them apart to use.

This year I am using my Grandma Smout's recipe for Sugar Cookies.

"Old Fashioned Cookies"
Recipe by Doris Smout
1cup Shortening/butter or margarine.
2 cups Sugar
2 Eggs
1 Cup Sour Cream
1/2 TSP soda
4 TBLS Baking Powder
1/2 TSP Salt
1TSP Vanilla
4 & 1/2 cups Flour
Nuts Optional (I don't use the nuts)
Creat together shortening and sugar.
Addeggs one at a time....continue beating.
Add sour cream and vanilla.
Sift dry ingredients together and add to cream mixture.
Roll on floured counter cut into desired shapes or make balls and flatten with a cup or glass.
Hint:  Put in fridge for a couple of hours and then handle.
Place cookies on lightley greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 350 for 15-18 minutes.  Cookies should be large, soft and thick.
Frost as desired.
We will be talking about Grandmas Smout as we make the cookies.  She was a wonderful person and always managed to make me feel special each time I saw her.  I think using family recipes is a great way to honor those we love who have passed on.
This year we will be making Owl cookies....pictures to come.
